If you buy a domain name for an amount as low as $2 or $20 (say) - a domain name that is short, sweet, self - descriptive and has a "marketing appeal" - you can make a fortune by selling it latter. This is called "Domain Name Speculation". According to Guinness World Records and MSNBC, the most expensive domain name sales on record as of 2004 were: -

  * Business.com for $7.5 million (Dec 1999)        *  AsSeenOnTv.com for $5.1 million(Jan 2K)
  * Altavista.com for $3.3 million (Aug 1998)         *  Wine.com for $2.9 million(Sep 1999)
  * CreditCards.com for $2.75 million (Jul 2004)    * Autos.com for $2.2 million(Dec 1999)

  Keep it in mind that there are restrictions on domain trading and that it is different from  Cybersquatting. Cybersquatting can lead to legal disputes.
